SENIOR BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVE, CENTRAL REGION
Summary
Actors' Equity Association, the trade union representing more than 48,000 Actors and Stage Managers of the professional theatre throughout the United States, is seeking a highly experienced, highly skilled Senior Business Representative for the Central Regional Office in Chicago. The Senior Business Representative plays a large role in a number of contract negotiations, while being a key member of the Central Region’s management team and directly supervising the region’s Business Representatives.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and advise Business Reps on all contracts and contractual matters
- Train and mentor new Business Reps
- Perform performance evaluations of Business Reps and contribute to evaluations of other staff members
- Negotiate or assist in negotiating Equity agreements
- Participate in Senior Staff meetings and events
- Lead and attend committee meetings; attend Central Regional Board and Council meetings
- Serve as liaison between Central Regional Director (CRD) and national staff
- Participate and/or serve as an alternate to the CRD for labor relations events, e.g., CEILC
- Assist the CRD and Office Manager in day-to-day management of the office and staff, including, but not limited to, interviewing and hiring, staffing and coverage issues, and employee discipline
- Participate in SEIU negotiations of staff contract; assist with the interpretation and enforcement of SEIU Agreement and the handling of grievances
- Provide back-up for regional director’s responsibilities when CRD is out of the office, including, but not limited to, CRB duties, Board member/Councilor relations, staff-related concerns and any bonding issues
- Provide back-up for office manager responsibilities when the Office Manager is out of the office
Requirements: Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Strong writing skills required; skill in drafting contract language preferred
- Demonstrated experience as a successful negotiator required – negotiation of contracts in live theatre a plus
- At least five years of senior level labor professional or Business Representative-type experience or senior level theatre industry experience, including negotiation of labor contracts, required
- Demonstrated experience in senior level management and employee supervision with a general awareness of best business and human resources practices required
- Knowledge of Equity Agreements, including, but not limited to, LORT (League of Resident Theatres) and CAT (Chicago Area Theatres), preferred
- The ability to work nights and weekends and attend performances required
- The ability to travel required
- An interest in theatre and live performance strongly preferred
